Job Summary
The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, products, and services required to support business operations. This role ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality standards, supplier performance, inventory targets, and on-time delivery requirements. The Senior Buyer develops strategic supplier relationships, analyzes market trends, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to support organizational goals
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
- Source and procure materials, products, equipment, and services in accordance with company requirements.
- Manage the end-to-end purchasing process, including supplier selection, quotation analysis, contract negotiations, and purchase order issuance.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials to support production schedules and operational needs.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities to avoid stock shortages or excess inventory.
Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, cost, and service metrics.
- Conduct supplier reviews and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Identify and qualify new suppliers to improve competitiveness and reduce supply chain risks.
Cost Management & Negotiation
- Lead negotiations for pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service agreements.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement procurement strategies that improve overall value.
- Analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and supplier capabilities to support purchasing decisions.
- Achieve annual cost reduction and procurement performance objectives.
Strategic Sourcing
- Develop sourcing strategies aligned with business requirements.
- Conduct market research and benchmarking to identify best-in-class suppliers.
- Support supplier diversification and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to enhance procurement efficiency and supply chain performance.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, contracts, supplier documentation, and procurement reports.
- Track and report key procurement metrics including cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory trends.
- Support internal and external audits as required.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Finance, and Warehouse teams.
- Support new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior buyers and purchasing team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field.
- Professional purchasing designation (e.g., SCMP, CPSM, CPM) is considered an asset.
- 5–8+ years of progressive purchasing or procurement experience.
- Experience in manufacturing, food production, packaging, or industrial environments preferred.
- Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain principles.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management and demand planning concepts.
Working Conditions
- Office and manufacturing environment.
- Occasional travel may be required for supplier visits, audits, and trade shows.
- May require flexibility to support urgent operational and supplier matters.
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
