Sanguen Health Centre exists to improve individual and community well-being by providing health and social care for people who face barriers to accessing traditional supports. This includes people living with Hepatitis C, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness and equity deserving communities.

Summary of the Role
The Mobile Support Worker supports the delivery of the Mobile Van Outreach Program through delivering direct services to community members. This includes helping with service stops, donation pickups, van operation, and harm reduction support.
Responsibilities
- Assist with service stops: set up, engage with participants, distribute supplies, and maintain a safe, respectful environment
- Drive the outreach van safely and responsibly, following all traffic laws and route schedules
- This role may at times drive their own vehicle to outreach locations and may at times provide rides for team members to outreach locations.
- Perform donation pickups from partner locations and load/unload supplies
- Support harm reduction practices by providing education, supplies (e.g., naloxone, safer-use materials), and non-judgmental support
- Help with daily vehicle checks, cleanliness, and basic inventory tracking
- Complete brief documentation of stops, interactions, and supply usage
- Provide back-up support for administrative tasks, as required
- Drive the Mobile Outreach Van for program operations and outreach
- Participate in training and ongoing learning opportunities
- Attend team and staff meetings, as required
- Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience or a strong interest in outreach with the population Sanguen serves (e.g. people experiencing homeless, people who use drugs)
- Valid G-class driver's license and clear driver’s abstract
- Comfortable driving a large van (training provided if needed)
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and handle physical tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills and a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach
- Experience or willingness to learn harm reduction principles
- Ability to collaborate with peers and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment
- Crisis intervention, de-escalation and/or motivational interviewing skills
- Must have an understanding of how to work with highly marginalized individuals in a compassionate and respectful manner
- Understanding of social services and the health care system in the Waterloo Region
- Experience with harm reduction education and distributing harm reduction supplies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to read and write legibly.
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and autonomously.
- Must be comfortable being around, discussing and working with people who use or have used drugs and compassionate about the barriers faced by people who use drugs.
- Must be willing to continuously learn from the experts (people who use drugs).
- Ability to work some evening hours, as required
- Thorough knowledge or willingness to learn about hepatitis C.
- Understanding of Harm Reduction and belief in this philosophy
- Must understand the Social Determinants of Health as they pertain to substance use.
- Lived experience an asset, but not mandatory
- Safe Food Handling certification, considered an asset
- Access to a safe and reliable vehicle is considered an asset (including applicable insurance).
In addition, this position requires:
- A vulnerable sector check
- Have emergency first aid (or equivalent) and BLS (Health Care Provider level preferred), or willingness to complete this training

Hours and Location of Work
This role will be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. The location of work will include 176 Wyndham Street, North in Guelph, including various outreach stops throughout Guelph and Wellington County. Shifts will be Monday through Friday, and will include daytime and evening hours.
Mileage will be reimbursed for travel between work locations within a shift, if a personal vehicle is used.
Compensation
- The compensation for this role will range from $22.00-$25.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications, paid as an annual salary
- 4% vacation pay
