Position Details:
- Position Title: Housekeeping and Laundry Aide
- Position Type: Multiple Positions Available – Permanent and Temporary; Full-time, Part-time, and Casual
- Location: Opportunities available at any of the following Care Centres –Brentwood, Chinook, Kingsland, or Southwood.
- Hours of Work: Shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
- Union Status: Unionized
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects soiled linens and personal laundry from user areas.
- Sorts, washes, dries, and folds linen and residents' personal clothing.
- Distributes linen and residents' personal clothing to user areas.
- Performs minor mending and ironing services as necessary.
- Responsible for the provision of quality Cleaning Services to provide a clean, safe and aesthetic environment for facility customers [Residents, Guests, Staff].
- Follows policies and procedures and work routines.
- Ensures a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Works in partnership to improve the performance of individuals, teams and the organization in providing improved customer service for residents, guests, and staff.
- Applies identification labels to all personal clothing and linens.
- Removes and disposes of garbage according to prescribed procedures.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Reports unsafe, hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to their supervisor/designate.
- Understands and adheres to health and safety responsibilities as outlined in the Corporate Health and Safety Policy.
- Demonstrates respect for all customers, working with them in a calm, courteous manner.
- Performs all duties as specified in the written policies and procedures of the Corporation, the facility and Residential Services.
- Accepts responsibility for the performance results of his/her work teams and works in partnership with individuals and groups of employees (teams) to improve services for our customers.
- Participates in project teams, committees and meetings, as required. Responsible for reading minutes and memorandums provided to their team.
- Knowledgeable of facility procedures for WHMIS, fire and environmental safety.
- Accepts responsibility for their performance; actively seeks and participates in learning opportunities to achieve or exceed performance requirements (behaviors).
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language [oral and written].
- Knowledgeable in the use of laundry equipment.
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined including physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, stretching, and lifting heavy objects. Must be free of allergies or related conditions which may be aggravated by work with detergents, soaps, and chemicals regularly used in the department.
- Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for customers.
- Demonstrates effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to function as an effective team member with other staff, residents, families, and the public.
