Since 1999, Absolute Industrial Mechanical Ltd. has been providing plumbing and process piping installation and fabrication services. The majority of our work is in the public sector, working on municipal pump stations, water treatment plants, reservoirs, and related water handling facilities. Our office and fabrication shop are based out of Mission, BC, though we provide services throughout the province.
We are looking to add a Mechanical Estimator/Project Manager to our team. Absolute is a smaller company of 15-20 employees, so if you're tired of getting lost in the shuffle of a large company, this may be the place for you. Your day to day responsibilities will vary depending on current and potential project requirements. The ideal candidate for this position will be well rounded and keen to take on different tasks. The individual will also be a self starter, can work independently, but also follow specific direction.
Our scope of work varies from project to project, but will include any of the following:
- Stainless/carbon steel pipe spools
- PVC pipe spools
- Building plumbing (DWV, copper, fixtures, etc.)
- Metal fabrication (structural, handrails, ladders, trash racks, pipe stands, etc.)
- Water treatment equipment (hypochlorite systems, UV systems, odour control units, etc.)
- Instrumentation (flow meters, pressure transmitters, etc.)
- Pumping equipment (submersible, jockey, duty pumps etc.)
- Valves and related appurtenances
Roles & Responsibilities:
Estimating
- Review bid documents, drawings, and specifications thoroughly to fully understand the scope of work. Identify risks, potential changes and market conditions that may have cost or scheduling impacts.
- Prepare small to medium estimates, including complete material, labour and equipment take-offs. This includes identifying areas of cost savings, long lead items, and potential alternate solutions.
- Lead tender review meetings with management prior to submitting to client.
- Review upcoming and ongoing tender opportunities.
- Follow-up and obtain feedback on submitted estimates to identify areas of improvement, including identifying market trends and adjusting accordingly.
CAD Design/ Drafting
- Review IFC/IFT drawing sets and integrate into CAD for spool drawing generation
- Review equipment shop drawings to establish appropriate piping configurations
- Meet with field installation crews to make adjustments based on site conditions/surveys
- Meet with fabrication managers/ project managers to discuss scheduling
Project Management
- Maintain a full understanding of project scope throughout the duration of the project.
- Attend meetings (pre-con, on-site, etc.)
- Prepare look-ahead schedules, submittals, and other project documents.
- Prepare change orders and negotiate with client to ensure all parties are satisfied.
- Purchase and negotiate deliverables with preferred vendors.
Requirements/Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the right candidate
- P.Eng is a definite asset
- AutoCAD 2D and 3D drafting experience
- Solid understanding of Mechanical Estimating within the ICI (Institutional, Commercial, Industrial) sector
- 3+ years of estimating experience within the ICI sector
- 1-3 years of project management preferred
