Job Summary
The Manager, Engineering Materials is responsible for handling the coordination of all new engineering materials movements to meet demands registered in the Engineering Capital Planning System (ECPS). Moreover, the role coordinates the movement of cars for scrap materials to disposable outlets and handles the scrap tie program.
Main Responsibilities
New Material Movement
- Lead a team of Material Officers to ensure new material requests are delivered on time, minor Other Track Materials (OTM) are diligently charged out and ECPS is up to date
- Ensure smooth material flow and escalate, if necessary
- Coordinate to ensure empty and load cars are flowing to and from suppliers as per Engineering needs
- Review completed programs to confirm charge outs
Scrap Ties
- Maintain an inventory of scrap ties on the property
- Develop and execute a pickup plan annually in conjunction with regional forces
- Handle the scrap tie pickup and disposal budgets
- Handle the allocation and billing of scarp tie cars
- Lead the movement of loaded cars to disposable outlets
- Review and approve scrap tie disposal outlet invoices
- Coordinate billing of empty cars as per field request
- Provide monthly report on scrap tie program status
Scrap Rail
- Maintain an inventory of scrap rail on the property
- Develop and execute a pickup plan annually in conjunction with regional forces
- Handle the allocation and billing of scarp rail OCS cars
- Lead the movement of loaded cars to disposable outlets
- Coordinate billing of empty cars as per field request
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The position requires occasional field visits in various types of weather and environmental conditions. The role requires minimal travel (5%) within the United States (U.S.) and Canada. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires being on-call to respond to critical incidents.
Requirements
Experience
Rail Track Construction, Project Management or Rail Logistics
- Minimum 5 years of experience in rail track construction, project management or rail logistics
Education/Certification/Designation
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or Engineering*
- Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
