Position: Emergency Shelter Worker (ESW #5)
Classification: Temporary Part Time (Average 28 hrs/week)
Location: Nelson, BC
The Emergency Shelter Worker completes resident intake and monitors and attends to the well being and safety of residents during their shift. Maintains a comfortable, clean, and safe environment. This is a benefited position upon successful completion of the probation or trial period.

Reporting to the Front-Line Supervisor, the Emergency Shelter Worker completes resident intake and monitors and attends to the well being and safety of residents during their shift. Maintains a comfortable, clean, and safe environment. This position requires union membership with CUPE.

Education/Training and Experience:
A minimum of grade 12 is required. Post-secondary certificate in human services or related field, or the equivalent experience and education is preferred.
A minimum of 6 months experience working with homeless or at risk of homeless populations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Understanding and working knowledge of working with vulnerable populations including those with disabilities; substance and mental health issues is highly recommended.
Specific Qualifications (to be completed within probation period):
- WorkSafe BC Basic First Aid
- Current TB skin test
- Food Safe Certificate
- Required Criminal Record Check
- Valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Certification
- WHMIS Training
- Bullying and Harassment Training
- Naloxone Training
- Ability to perform the required duties of the job
Compensation: Current starting hourly wage is $24.97 per hour (Grid Level 8, Step 1).*

Hours : Average 28 hours/week
Days of Work : Schedule A: : Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm and Saturday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm
