The Job – Water Damage Technician
At On Side, Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup (yes, sometimes it’s one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls. Understanding the urgency of the situation and working with customers in a caring, calm and empathetic manner are paramount to the success of a WDTs day!
Working as a team, WDTs mop up the mess to ensure everything is shipshape and ready to get back to the pre-disaster state.
What you bring:
A WDT bring a host of abilities to their work with a ‘get it done!’ attitude.
Additional abilities include:
- Previous industry experience as a Water Damage Technician
- Mechanical aptitude— you can look at something and just know how it works
- Demolition experience- careful, mindful, good housekeeping
- Detail oriented and curious
- Organized with a good sense of time— you’re rarely late and know where all your tools are
- Physically fit— water damage can, at times, include heavy lifting and getting into (and out of) tight places
- Tech savviness (capability to learn applications and computer programs as required)
- Interest in cross training in Remediation, Contents Cleaning, Emergency, and helping all teams
- Willing to wear the PPE that is provided for the job, including being clean shaven (if applicable) for half and full-face masks
- Friendly and enjoys working in a team!
- A safety-first mindset
- Valid driver’s licence & clean drivers abstract
- Able to successfully satisfy On Side’s criminal record check requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to work locally and out of town as required
Other stuff that will contribute to your success but isn’t required:
- IICRC Water Damage Technician Certification (if you don’t have this, we’ll help you get it!)
Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

- Do you have restoration industry experience working with water damage and drying tools (air movers, negative air machines, pressurized drying systems, floor drying systems, dehumidifiers, moisture meters)? Tell us why you would be the best person for this job.
- Cross training and helping other team members is required for this role. Successful candidates will be trained in Demolition, Contents, and Remediation. Are you able and willing to train and work in other roles?
- Do you consider yourself to be tech savvy? This position is 80% paperless and operating software, phones, tablets, etc will be mandatory.
- Do you have any valid (or expired) IICRC certificates? If yes, please list them here.
- Are you physically fit? This position can be physically demanding and requires a person to bend, crouch, reach, kneel, and carry 50+lbs.
- Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime are paid.
- Are you able to work later than scheduled when required?
