If you are looking for an exciting auxiliary opportunity and the chance to help shape the future of Burnaby, here’s your chance! As part of our dynamic Planning and Development department in the Building Division, you will help residents and professionals navigate applications for plumbing, gas, electrical, building, rezoning, subdivision, and more, all within the guidelines set by the municipal bylaws and departmental regulations. With your customer service skills, you’ll bring clarity to zoning questions by answering inquiries related to bylaws and property development; determine and collect permit fees; and ensure application details are entered into the Permit Plan System to keep records organized, accessible, and up to date. As a Customer Service Assistant, you will provide helpful, factual information to homeowners, contractors, colleagues, and anyone else who needs guidance. Additionally, your attention to detail will come into play when you prepare letters and documents related to permits and inspections. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by or including standard commercial courses and courses relating to the work plus sound related office experience involving public contact preferably in a Municipal Building or Planning department, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable departmental practices, procedures, rules and regulations and of the requirements of other departments and agencies relative to permit application processing. Sound knowledge of the automated Permit Plan System (Energov). Working knowledge of the zoning, or plumbing, electrical and gas, building and other by-laws as related to work performed. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, officials and staff in supplying information and in explaining by-laws, regulations and departmental procedures related to the work performed.
Pay Rate: $32.88 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
Location: City Hall
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts are Tuesday to Thursday from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
