Harrison Pensa is actively recruiting a Legal Assistant in our Insurance Services Department. We are looking for a self-driven individual who has a high attention to detail that will be successful in a fast-paced environment. Our Insurance Services Department handles matters concerning risk and financial losses for Insurance Companies. Matters in this department can relate to Subrogation, Property Loss, Employers’ liability, fidelity and reinsurance, and many other various coverage areas. This department not only provides comprehensive and informed opinions but offers an effective defense of claims when necessary.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Arrange for service and filing of court documents
- Maintains the day-to-day schedule and operations for the lawyer(s) to whom they report
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and manage Outlook calendars
- Perform administrative duties, including preparing/drafting correspondence, electronic and paper filing, entering dockets, preparation of accounts, day to day scanning, arranging couriers, etc.
- Prepare pleadings, motion records, factums, resolutions, agreements, affidavits, affidavit of documents, and other court documents according to instruction or precedents.
- Assist lawyers in preparation for mediation, trials, and judicial dispute resolutions
- Communicating to internal and external parties regarding ongoing file management.
- Proofread and edit documents
- Liaise with court staff to set motion dates, court appointments, etc.
- Bill and invoice clients
- Prepare and maintain a bring-forward system, as well as providing appropriate reminders
- Respond to client inquiries as appropriate, maintaining client confidence and keeping client/lawyer information confidential.
- Assist lawyers and staff within the Insurance Services practice group when necessary.
- Other duties as required.
The successful candidate ideally has the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary Law Clerk Diploma or related discipline;
- 1-3 years’ Law Clerk/ Legal Assistant experience;
- Experience in Insurance Services is considered an asset;
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and able to prioritize workloads;
- Demonstrated ability to adjust priorities with time management skills to success in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Professional attitude who is also courteous and client focused;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and Legal Industry Software
We offer a salary commensurate with experience and a collegial environment.
The compensation range for this role is between $42,000 and $52,000
