Overview
Vertical Grain (www.verticalgrain.com) are a custom residential construction company and millwork shop specializing in high-end homes and renovations. We are looking for an experienced Millwork Shop Manager to lead day-to-day shop operations, manage production schedules, and maintain the high level of craftsmanship our residential clients expect.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong cabinetry knowledge, attention to detail, and experience managing people and workflow in a custom shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily shop operations and production schedules
- Coordinate closely with project management and design teams
- Supervise, train, and support cabinetmakers and shop staff
- Ensure work meets drawings, specifications, and finish standards
- Oversee material quality, hardware readiness, and workflow efficiency
- Maintain shop safety, organization, and equipment upkeep
- Identify opportunities to reduce rework and improve efficiency
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in custom residential or high-end millwork
- Previous shop leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of cabinetry construction, materials, and finishes
- Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings
- Experience with CNC equipment and standard woodworking machinery
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- experience with Lean manufacturing and a desire to promote efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson cabinetmaker or equivalent experience
- Experience with Mozaik and Sketchup
- Background working with designers, Architects and contractors
