Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Personal Chef / Meal Prep Specialist to provide customized, nutritious, and delicious meals tailored to the needs of our two-adult family. This is not a luxury fine-dining private chef role. We are looking for someone who is fast, organized, cost-conscious, and excellent at making real food that reheats well. The ideal person may be an experienced meal prep chef, personal chef, strong home cook, line cook, prep cook, or small-scale production cook who knows how to plan, batch cook, portion, and keep food consistent.
Responsibilities
- Create simple weekly meal plans based on nutrition targets and preferences. Once established these may stay consistent on a monthly basis, with a new meal plan each week for a month and then repeating.
- Use seasonal items, sales, and smart substitutions when possible
- Batch cook meals efficiently once or twice per week
- Portion, label, refrigerate, and freeze meals
- Make meals that reheat well and require little to no cutting or assembly
- Keep the menu varied without making prep overly complicated
- Minimize waste by reusing ingredients intelligently
- Maintain a clean and organized cooking process
- Clean the kitchen at the end of each session
Nutrition and meal expectations
You do not need to be a dietitian, but you should be comfortable cooking from clear nutrition guidelines. Meals should generally include 30–35g protein per serving and regularly incorporate:
- Beans or legumes
- Vegetables and Greens
- Whole grains
- A variety of animal proteins across the week
Most meals should be
- Easy to eat with a spoon or fork
- Fully cooked and portioned
- Microwave-friendly
- Tasty after reheating
- Healthy without feeling like bland “diet meal prep”
- Efficient and economical to produce
You are probably a strong fit if you are:
Experienced with meal prep, batch cooking, or personal chef work
Practical, fast, and organized
Good at multicultural cooking and bold, familiar flavours
Comfortable with Thai, Mediterranean, and Italian-style meals, as well as healthy bowl + protein concepts
Able to cook healthy food that still tastes good
Cost-conscious in terms of groceries
Good at portioning, labeling, freezing, and reheating systems
Reliable and clean
Entrepreneurial and efficient rather than overly precious or luxury-focused
Not the right fit if
You only want to cook high-end fine dining meals
You are very new to cooking and still work slowly
You prefer complex menus over efficient weekly systems
You are only comfortable making bland chicken-rice-broccoli meal prep
Interview exercise
As part of the screening process, we may ask you to describe how you would design 3 days of meals for two adults, including shared lunches and dinners, containing 30–35g protein per main meal. If we move forward to the second stage, we may ask you to cook test meals for us which would be a paid exercise.
How to apply
Please apply through Indeed with a brief note about your cooking background, meal prep experience, cuisines you are comfortable preparing, and your availability for two part-time prep days per week in M6G 3E9 downtown Toronto (College & Ossington area).
