Camp Tanamakoon – Algonquin Park, Ontario
Position Overview
Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the upkeep, safety, and operational functionality of all buildings, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure at Camp Tanamakoon. This role ensures that camp facilities are well maintained, safe, and ready to support campers and staff throughout the season.
This position plays a critical role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for the camp community.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Grounds Management
- Maintenance and repair of all camp buildings, cabins, docks, and program facilities.
- Maintain camp roads, trails, waterfront areas, and grounds.
- Assists with infrastructure (water systems, septic, electrical, and plumbing)
- Perform routine inspections to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Ensures common buildings are cleaned on a regular basis
Repairs & Preventative Maintenance
- Perform general repairs including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and mechanical work.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, boats, and maintenance equipment.
- Implement preventative maintenance schedules for buildings and infrastructure.
- Coordinate specialized contractors when necessary.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with camp safety policies and relevant regulations.
- Address hazards promptly and maintain safe working environments.
- Support emergency response procedures and risk management.
- Maintain safe storage of tools, fuels, and maintenance materials.
Camp Operations Support
- Assist with camp set-up prior to the season and winterization at the end of the season.
- Support program areas with infrastructure needs (docks, equipment storage, etc.).
- Assist with deliveries, waste management, and logistical support across camp.
- Support transportation needs, including operation of camp vehicles or boats.
- Maintains an inventory and orders supplies as needed.
Qualifications
- 2 years experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or similar roles.
- Strong practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs.
- Experience supervising or coordinating staff is an asset.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems independently.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a camp or remote environment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Boat operation experience is an asset.
- Pleasure Craft Operators Card- PCOC
- First Aid and CPR certification.

Work Environment
Camp Tanamakoon is a traditional overnight summer camp located in Algonquin Park. The Head of Maintenance lives and works on-site and plays an important role in supporting the camp’s operations and community.
Pay: $4,100.00-$4,500.00 per month
