The Receiver and Inventory Coordinator is responsible for the receipt, storage, tracking, and distribution of raw materials, production supplies, and finished aluminum billet products within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures the accurate and timely processing of incoming and outgoing materials, maintains optimal inventory levels, and coordinates closely with production, procurement, shipping, and quality departments to support efficient plant operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Receiving and Inspection
- Receive incoming raw materials, production supplies, packaging materials, and other plant inventory.
- Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, damage, and compliance with purchase orders and specifications.
- Verify packing slips, bills of lading, and shipping documentation against purchase orders and delivery schedules.
- Record and process all received materials accurately within the inventory management system.
- Coordinate with Quality Control and Casthouse teams regarding non-conforming materials or shipment discrepancies.
2. Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, consumables, spare parts, and finished aluminum billets.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted production operations and timely replenishment of materials.
- Generate purchase orders for consumables, alloying materials (non-scrap), and maintenance parts.
- Conduct routine cycle counts and physical inventory audits; investigate and reconcile discrepancies.
- Track movement of materials between receiving, warehouse, production, and shipping areas.
- Support inventory optimization initiatives to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
3. Storage and Organization
- Organize and store materials in designated storage systems and staging areas to ensure accessibility and safe handling.
- Maintain an efficient inventory storage and material tracking system.
- Ensure proper labeling, identification, and categorization of all inventory items, including alloying materials and production materials.
- Coordinate material handling activities using forklifts or other equipment where required.
- Maintain orderly and clean warehouse, receiving, and storage areas in accordance with plant standards.
4. Coordination and Communication
- Collaborate with procurement, production, maintenance, shipping, and quality departments to support operational requirements.
- Communicate with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders regarding deliveries, shortages, damaged goods, and returns.
- Coordinate material availability to meet production schedules and shipping deadlines.
- Provide regular updates to management regarding inventory status, material shortages, and potential supply chain concerns.
5. Reporting
- Generate and maintain receiving, inventory, and material movement reports.
- Analyze inventory data and material usage trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Assist with audit preparation, inventory reconciliation, and compliance reporting.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to inventory transactions and material traceability.
6. Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to company policies, manufacturing procedures, and inventory control standards.
- Follow all plant safety procedures, PPE requirements, and safe material handling practices.
- Support compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations within the manufacturing facility.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of receiving, warehouse, and inventory areas in accordance with 5S or similar standards.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and inventory/ERP systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow direction and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in inventory control, receiving, warehouse operations, or manufacturing logistics preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification considered an asset.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to industrial manufacturing conditions including heat, noise, moving equipment, and aluminum production processes.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
