We are looking for a versatile and reliable Snow Plow & Street Sweeping Operator to join our municipal maintenance team. This dual-role position requires a proactive individual who can handle the demands of heavy winter snow removal and transition seamlessly into precision street cleaning and debris management during the warmer months.
Key ResponsibilitiesWinter Operations: Snow & Ice Control
- Plowing & Salting: Operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front plows, wing plows, and salt spreaders to clear roads, parking lots, and emergency routes.
- Emergency Response: Remain on-call for 24/7 snow events, ensuring public safety through timely and efficient ice management.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking hydraulic lines, blade wear, and fluid levels.
Seasonal Operations: Street Sweeping
- Debris Removal: Operate mechanical, regenerative air, or vacuum-assisted street sweepers to remove sand, salt, litter, and organic debris from roadways and gutters.
- Route Management: Execute scheduled sweeping routes efficiently while navigating around parked cars, utility covers, and tight urban corners.
- Water System Management: Monitor and refill onboard water tanks used for dust suppression during sweeping operations.
- Disposal: Transport and safely dump collected debris at designated environmental sites according to local regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Licensing: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Class A or B depending on equipment size) with a clean driving record and a valid DOT medical card.
- Equipment Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience operating heavy machinery. Specific experience with regenerative air or mechanical broom sweepers (e.g., Elgin, Schwarze, or Tymco) is highly preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate complex hydraulic controls and onboard computer systems for both plowing and sweeping adjustments.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of diesel engines and the ability to perform field adjustments (e.g., adjusting broom tension or replacing plow cutting edges).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit for long periods, work in extreme weather conditions (blizzards/high heat), and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Situational Awareness: High level of spatial awareness to operate large equipment in high-traffic areas and around pedestrians.
