The Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources’ Saskatchewan Geological Survey Branch is seeking a self-motivated and committed Precambrian Research Geologist for a one-year term to plan and implement field-based projects on aspects of the geology of the Precambrian Shield of Saskatchewan.
The successful candidate must have bedrock mapping experience, a minimum of a Bachelor's of Science degree in Geology, and be registered (or eligible for registration) in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. You must also have the ability, and willingness, to work in remote and physically-demanding wilderness areas of northern Saskatchewan for extended periods of time.
In addition to conducting short- and long-term field and laboratory investigations, the successful candidate will prepare scientific reports, papers, and talks or posters for presentation at seminars. Providing technical consultation to industry, government, and the public will also be required.
We are seeking a forward thinker who is able to effectively organize and manage resources, adapt to changing priorities and tight deadlines, and work independently or as a contributing member of a team. You should be knowledgeable of the Precambrian geology of Saskatchewan, as well as structural and mineral deposit geology and igneous and metamorphic petrology. You should also have the ability to gather, evaluate, and interpret geological data employing current geochemical, geochronological, geophysical, and isotopic theories.
The position also requires the ability to write detailed reports and generate accurate maps using a variety of computer applications, including geographic information systems, graphic design, and geological mapping software packages. Assets to the position would include: excellent oral and written skills, the ability to clearly define complex problems and develop sound options and innovative solutions; the ability to advance professionally and embrace new technical material.
The successful candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with client groups including the mineral industry, Indigenous communities, other government personnel, and the public.
