Environment Specialist, Transportation
Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, Transportation, the Environment Specialist, Transportation will be working to ensure the compliance of environmental laws and regulations throughout the 14 airports and maritime infrastructures in Nunavik. More specifically, the Environmental Specialist will:
- Provide assistance, expertise and training in environment in general for the 14 airports and marinas.
- Provide guidance to Transportation Department employees when an accidental spill occurs at one of the 14 airports or marinas, and participate in the management of the database of contaminated soils, accidental and historical spill events, ongoing and completed remediation projects.
- Conduct annual environmental inspections and audits in all KRG Airports and marinas and provide recommendations on the appropriate applicable corrective measures.
- Provide assistance and training with handling, storage and disposal of dangerous goods and residual waste.
- Implement environmental plans, policies, and standardized procedures to oversee operational activities at airports and marinas and ensure regulatory compliance of the Transportation Department employees and activities.
- Plan and participate in the implementation of environmental emergency action plans and plan environmental emergency exercises.
- Participate to other environmental programs or committees including airport wildlife management, marine protection, dust suppressant and glycol management;
- Perform any other duties as required.
Required qualifications:
- University degree in environmental studies or in a related field. An equivalent combination of a strong educational background, technical training and relevant work experience may be considered.
- Minimum 2 years experience in a related field (environmental field work experiences would be considered an asset);
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;
- Strong team work and relationship management competencies;
- Good understanding of Aboriginal issues and the North in general is considered an asset;
- Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French;
- Working knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Office);
- Ability to travel frequently throughout Nunavik.

Salary: Min; $63,716.38/year, Max: $109,329.22/year (Class 10)
