Position Summary
WINMAR® is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller responsible for leading BELFOR Franchise Group Canada’s accounting and financial reporting functions while ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal control requirements. This role oversees the accounting team, manages the monthly and annual close processes, prepares financial statements, supports budgeting and forecasting, and provides financial analysis to senior leadership.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to improve financial processes while supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as applicable.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis.
- Present financial reports to executive leadership.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
- Review monthly income statements, balance sheet, receivables, EBITA with President.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations, including GST/HST, PST, payroll remittances, and corporate income tax requirements.
- Coordinate annual external audits and tax filings.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting regulations and corporate policies.
- Engage with Franchises on accounting tasks related to franchisees.
- Audit franchise compliance.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
- Assist with forecasting and long-term financial planning.
- Monitor departmental budgets and recommend corrective actions.
- Support strategic decision-making through financial modeling and analysis.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Improve accounting procedures and financial reporting processes.
- Lead ERP (JD Edwards) and accounting system implementations or upgrades.
- Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies.
- Ensure data integrity within financial systems.
Leadership
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with department leaders to support business objectives.
Other Responsibilities:
Assist with Human Resources, administrative, and franchise contract-related functions as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA Canada) designation required.
Experience
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 3–5+ years in a leadership or controller role.
- Experience managing audits and financial reporting.
- Experience with Canadian tax compliance and payroll regulations.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS.
- Thorough understanding of Canadian taxation (GST/HST, PST, payroll, corporate tax).
- Advanced financial analysis and budgeting skills.
- Previous experience with JD Edwards or a similar ERP system.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, PSA or similar).

Pay: $110,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
