Indigenous Relations Officer

What you'll do
- Supports and may lead engagement and relationship building with First Nations for assigned region by: facilitating the
implementation relationship agreement commitments with stakeholders (such as tracking and identifying procurement and
employment opportunities); coordinating, attending and providing administrative support for meetings with First Nations; and
responding to or assisting with responses to inquiries from First Nations.
- Supports the project consultation and delivery process by: leading the First Nations consultation component of low
complexity projects and programs, including preparing consultation plans, strategies and budgets; and assisting Project
Engagement Leads on moderate to complex projects with preparing for consultation meetings, tracking, implementing
commitments and meeting project regulatory requirements.
- Co-ordinates with the Indigenous Relations (IR) Project Analysts on the processing and payment of invoices and
relationship funding commitments.
- Maintains database for a variety of First Nation information such as project, relationship and contacts. Provides advice and
guidance to BC Hydro employees and contractors on protocols for contacting and tracking First Nations contacts to align
with First Nations’ protocols and adherence to established records management practices.
- Provides research and analytical support for meetings on Indigenous matters. Conducts research to draft briefing notes
and presentations.
- Coordinates action items results from regional dashboards to track performance related to agreement management with
Project Engagement Leads, including progression and exception reporting.
- Monitors and tracks annual relationship work plans in the systems. Tracks, monitors and reports on budget for work plans.
Flags operational and capital budget issues for management’s attention and provides recommendations for budget re-
allocations as required.
- Assists IR Team Leads with resourcing allocation of new projects for assigned region. Makes recommendations to IR
Team Leads on resource allocations by reviewing project requirements and resourcing availability. Discusses projects and
assignments with relevant Project Engagement Leads to confirm project participation.
- Provides technical support and training to regional staff, consultants and First Nations representatives on the systems
(such as ARIES, SharePoint, etc.) used to support and track engagement activities. Provides guidance to IR staff on system
and data integrity issues.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- Diploma in Communications or Social Science or Degree in Public Administration, Economic Development, Law,
Indigenous Studies, Communications, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Resource Management or in a related field of study.
