Are you an experienced meat professional with a passion for leadership, retail operations, and exceptional customer service? We’re looking for a Meat Manager to lead our dynamic team and ensure our department runs smoothly, profitably, and to the highest standard.
As a key member of our Co-op Management team, you’ll oversee daily operations of the meat department — from inventory management and merchandising to budgeting and staff development. What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Foodstore Manager, you’ll provide leadership to personnel in the Meat department and will work closely with other departments.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Meat Department, while ensuring compliance with all company policies, procedures, safety standards and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing department; manage in-store displays, demos, and promotional activities.
- Support department profitability by controlling expenses, aligning promotions with Co-op standards, and contributing to annual planning.
- Meet sales, margin, and labor targets; manage invoices, pricing accuracy, markdowns, and financial reporting with attention to detail.
- Maintain competitive and budgeted margins; conduct regular price checks and implement cost-control systems.
- Order from approved vendors, manage seasonal and promotional stock levels, ensure accurate counts, and maintain quality handling standards.
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff; foster a positive team environment; conduct performance reviews and ensure policy compliance, including labor agreements and health & safety laws.
- Lead weekly team meetings, manage scheduling, and identify training needs to ensure smooth operations and ongoing development.
Who You Are
You have the following qualifications:
3 years’ experience working in a meat department.
- 3 years’ experience cutting meat.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory or Management role in food or non-food retail operations.
- Ability to manage inventory levels, order stock and price products to achieve gross margin targets.
- Excellent people management skills including the ability to hire, train, motivate, evaluate, correct, develop, and increase staff performance in a cross-cultural environment.
- Well-developed financial management skills including a good understanding of profit and loss management.
- Solid oral and written communication and presentation skills combined with customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, time-management and project management skills.
- Progressive knowledge and experience in the industry include competition, trends and understanding the marketplace.
Work Conditions
- Frequent lifting/moving of up to 50 lbs
- Standing for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
- Working in coolers for extended durations
- Repetitive movements, bending, and reaching required
