We are seeking a hands-on Health and Safety Specialist in Harbour Breton, NL to support safe, efficient day-to-day operations in a production environment. This role works closely with production leaders and employees in operations to identify risks, strengthen safe work practices, support compliance, and drive continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be highly visible in operations, practical in their approach, and comfortable balancing regulatory requirements with the realities of a fast-paced operational setting.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support day-to-day health and safety activities
- Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and audits, and follow up on actions
- Lead and support incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and lessons learned
- Deliver toolbox talks, training sessions, and awareness campaigns for employees and leaders
- Work with managers to improve safety culture, routines, and behavior on site
- Maintain and update safety documentation, procedures, and reports in line with policies and regulations
WHAT YOU BRING
You bring a practical approach to health and safety and know how to connect with people at all levels. You are comfortable in a busy industrial environment and enjoy being out in the operation more than sitting behind a desk all day.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in a production, manufacturing, industrial, food processing, or similar operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and safe work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence safe behaviours at all levels of the organization.
- Comfortable working in a highly visible, hands-on role with regular time spent in operational areas.
- Strong investigation, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and training skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on action items.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety documentation/reporting tools
- Well-developed English verbal and written communication
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn and participate in training opportunities
- Ability to work safely and effectively in challenging weather and travel by boat to marine sites
- Marine related training certificates would be an asset
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
- Able to travel to all of our locations throughout Atlantic Canada
- Regular travel within geograpical area
- Driver's license and clean abstract
