Locally owned and operated, Schooner Transport is in the business of transporting various petroleum-based products (asphalt, ethanol, gas, diesel, etc.) to & from various refineries, terminals, bulk plants & gas stations throughout eastern Ontario & western Québec.
The company only operates its own equipment.
Our organization is looking for professional AZ licensed truck drivers with a "can-do / lets get it done" attitude who thrive in a team environment and are able to operate both manual and automatic transmission highway tractors.
Currently hiring for:
Asphalt Haulage: (OTR) - various shifts
All on-the-road (OTR) drivers stay with their sleeper-equipped tractor throughout their weekly shift, before returning to the company's base of operations.
Although default "shift start-times" are adhered to as much as possible, specific loading and/or offloading time(s) can be specified by the customer and drivers are expected to adjust their schedule accordingly.
** Current priority hire **
1): - Hauling liquid asphalt: Tuesday to Saturday, 40 - 60 hrs/wk depending upon customer demand. Shift start times vary / discussed with dispatcher. Driver stays with the sleeper-equipped tractor for the duration of the work week.

Job Summary:
Report to work on time / on schedule
Operating tractor-trailers safely, following all roadway rules & regulations
Complete daily pre-trip & post-trip inspections of unit being operated
Maintain accurate driving logs (app- or computer-based elogs & paper back-ups if necessary)
Submit paperwork daily or as required
Report any technical issues with equipment being operated
Comply with all Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations, including proper maintenance & use of PPE.
Present one's self in a clean, professional manor at all times
Maintain cleanliness of truck's interior to company standards
Maintaining professional decorum with one's dispatcher, colleagues, customers & the general public is required at ALL times
Job Requirements:
- AZ License earned at a recognized truck driving institution
- Able to operate both manual & automatic transmission tractors, preferred
- A positive attitude, enjoys & works well in a team environment
- Must provide a valid Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) certificate
- Must have a clean driver’s abstract / record
- Meet all medical standards for operating AZ trucks (including vision standards)
- Knowledge & recognition of the importance of health & safety in the workplace
- Having previously operated petroleum tankers (tandems / quads / b-trains) is preferred, but not a requirement
- Existing familiarity with computer- &/or app-based log books (Qtracs & Motive) & paper-based log books, strongly preferred
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Able to speak French / being bilingual considered an asset
** Should have basic mechanical repair & maintenance knowledge (strongly preferred):
Examples (only):
- know your way "under the hood", i.e. can locate engine's starter, fuse boxes, main ground wire, radiator hoses, battery compartment, etc., etc.)
- able to properly check all fluid levels (oil, coolant, etc.) and add fluid as needed
- able to purge a tractor-trailer's air system of water
- able to cage an air-brake chamber & pinch-off broken air line
- able tighten hose-clamps, splice two electrical wires together, change a wind-shield wiper, etc.
Reason: Drivers are required to perform basic on-the-road (OTR) repairs &/or maintenance if necessary and must have a set of their own basic tools with them at all times (i.e. a proper flashlight, tire air gauge, vice-grips, various screwdrivers, needle nose pliers, standard pliers, various wrenches, small 3 lb sledgehammer, utility knife, electrical tape, small crowbar, etc. Spare fuses, zip ties, hose clamps provided by company on request).
- Must own a cell phone capable of sending & receiving text-messages, email & pictures
- Ability to lift 14 to 22 kilograms

Competitive wages commensurate with skills & experience:
- STARTING WAGE: Operating a quad hauling asphalt: $ 29 / hr **
** This rate may be subject to adjustment at time of hiring, given existing skill level, years of experience, etc. (to be discussed with hiring manager) **
