At Grandview Lodge the Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for the physical, social, and recreational well-being of the Residents. As a team leader, the RPN will be responsible for providing nursing care, administering medications and treatments, and for providing supervision and monitoring of frontline staff.
- College Diploma in Practical Nursing
- Current License to practice from the College of Nurses of Ontario or eligible to apply for a temporary license from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Standard First Aid and BLS (CPR)
- Six (6) months to one (1) year related work experience (preferably in a Long-Term Care setting) or other relevant work in the nursing field as an RPN
- Ability to recognize any change in condition in the Resident’s usual patterns
- Ability to follow direction from the Charge Nurse, Leadership, and Physician/NP
- Ability to follow interventions as outlined in the Residents’ care plans
- Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, written, and documentation)
- Ability to provide guidance and direction to a peer group
- Ability to work independently and as a team leader
- Ability to think critically and problem solve
- Interpersonal skills to interact with residents, families, co-workers, and the general public
- Technology Aptitude:
- Demonstrated basic computer skills to perform basic tasks on various technological devices and programs (PointClickCare (PCC)) while adhering to cybersecurity and an awareness of best practices.

The incumbent is expected to but not limited to:
- Follow the GVL philosophy of delivering care to Residents by utilizing Dementiability and GPA principles.
- Ensure Residents’ Bill of Rights are upheld.
- Work within policies and procedures determined by Haldimand County, GVL and current legislation.
- Communicate with residents, visitors, and other personnel with a customer service focus.
- Participate in the admission process and family conferences and maintain constant communication with Residents/POA/SDM to ensure changes in treatments, medications, or health status are addressed and communicated in a timely fashion.
- Provide work direction, work supervision, work assignments, instruction, and education to Personal Support Workers.
- Continually evaluate and assess staff performance.
- Assume the responsibility of replacing staff in cases of absenteeism when the Scheduler is not present in the Home.
- Participates on various teams and committees on a regular basis.
- Undertake continual collaboration and communication with the Director of Nursing, Associate Director of Nursing, and Charge Nurses in the Home
- Resident Care
- Assist the residents with activities of daily living according to their personalized plan of care.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the Physician/NP.
- Assign treatment cream applications to Personal Support Workers as required, ensuring they have met the educational requirements necessary to perform these tasks.
- Recordkeeping and Reports
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary care team through Resident observation, prompt reporting, and accurate and confidential documentation.
- Report any unusual or unacceptable behaviour of staff/visitors/Residents to Director of Nursing or designate.
- Health & Safety
- Maintain any equipment used in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Adheres to infection prevention and control practices as outlined in the policy and procedure manual.
- Ensure the Resident’s comfort and safety through compliance with current health and safety regulations and Ministry of Long Term Care standards.
- Report any and all abuse immediately to the Charge Nurse in the Home, Director of Nursing, and Administrator.
- Complete accident/incident report forms, as well as Critical Incidents.
