The Finishing Business Development Manager leads growth and strategy for Dick’s Lumber & Building Supplies’ interior finishing categories. This role drives sales, develops customer and supplier relationships, supports branch teams, and delivers solutions that strengthen Dick’s Lumber’s market position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the vision, strategy, and growth initiatives for finishing product categories.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Act as a trusted advisor by providing professional solutions and exceptional customer service.
- Drive sales of existing and new products to achieve business objectives.
- Develop new business opportunities through relationship building and cold calling.
- Support branch teams through product training, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure customer needs are met through timely service, follow-up, and issue resolution.
- Address customer concerns and provide effective solutions while maintaining company standards.
- Represent Dick’s Lumber & Building Supplies professionally at all times.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of sales and customer service experience within the finishing materials or construction industry.
- 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction products, industry trends, and architectural/structural plans.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or related field is an asset.
- Proven sales, business development, and cold-calling experience.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organization, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead collaboratively and influence teams at all levels.
- Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
Requirements
- Valid BC or Alberta Driver’s License required.
- Full-time career-focused position with travel requirements.
Working Conditions
- Availability required during store hours (Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.), with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Approximately 65% travel is required to support branches and meet with customers/prospects.
- Regular exposure to job sites requires safety equipment, including steel-toe footwear, eye, ear, head protection, and safety vests.
- Exposure to dust, noise, and construction debris.
- Must maintain a professional appearance by wearing Dick’s Lumber branded attire or business professional clothing.
