Hydrogeologist
Ambipar is seeking a Hydrogeologist to support projects throughout Western Canada. Candidates based in Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan are encouraged to apply.
The Hydrogeologist will perform work in accordance with Ambipar's operating procedures, performance standards, health and safety requirements, and applicable professional regulations. This position combines technical project work, report preparation, regulatory submissions, and mentorship of junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scopes of work that align with project requirements and risk-based assessment objectives.
- Review and interpret historical reports and site-specific data to develop project summaries and Conceptual Site Models.
- Evaluate project objectives, identify data gaps, and recommend strategies to achieve project goals.
- Review laboratory analytical results and provide recommendations to support regulatory closure objectives.
- Prepare Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports, remediation reports, soil and groundwater investigations, and regulatory variance requests.
- Prepare Remedial Action Plans (RAPs) for complex contaminated sites.
- Draft regulatory submissions, including Records of Site Condition and similar documentation, for senior review.
- Perform hydrogeological calculations, develop geological cross-sections, and prepare hydrogeology and contaminant hydrogeology reports.
- Incorporate technical review comments and finalize project deliverables.
- Conduct field investigations, including contaminant hydrogeology assessments and hydrogeological testing such as slug and pump tests.
- Analyze hydrogeological data using industry-standard software, including AQTESOLV.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on hydrogeological concepts and practices.
- Act as a technical resource when communicating with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders.
- Support collaboration and knowledge sharing across project teams.
- Maintain awareness of environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Contribute to quality assurance and quality control initiatives, ensuring consistency and accuracy in data collection, interpretation, and reporting.
- Support the professional development of Environmental Consultants and Project Managers.
- Participate in technical seminars, conferences, and industry events as a representative of Ambipar.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation with APEGA or eligibility to obtain registration. Registration with APEGS and/or EGBC is considered an asset.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in groundwater assessment and remediation projects for intermediate-level candidates.
- Strong understanding of hydrogeological principles, including groundwater flow, hydraulic gradients, hydraulic conductivity testing, contaminant migration, and surface water-groundwater interactions.
- Experience conducting field investigations and applying accepted industry practices.
- Strong technical writing, data interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
