The Opportunity
We are looking for an intermediate Collision Estimator/Repair Planner who already understands the fundamentals of collision estimating and wants to become stronger in a busy, professional repair environment.
This is not a senior-management position, and we are not expecting you to know everything on your first day.
We are looking for someone who can inspect vehicle damage, write straightforward estimates, maintain organized files and communicate professionally with customers and coworkers. You will have access to experienced team members and management when a file requires additional guidance.
This position may be a strong fit for:
- A developing estimator who wants exposure to more files and repair situations
- An automotive professional with some collision-estimating experience who wants to advance
- A dealership, insurance or collision employee who understands repairs and has started writing estimates
- An experienced estimator who prefers a clearly defined estimating role rather than managing an entire shop
About 24HR Collision
24HR Collision is a locally owned collision-repair company with established facilities in Vancouver and Surrey.
We work extensively with ICBC and repair a wide range of modern vehicles. Our facilities hold multiple manufacturer certifications, and our repair process continues to become more structured as vehicle technology and OEM requirements develop.
We are not interested in creating an advertisement that describes a perfect workplace where every day is easy. Collision repair is busy. Priorities can change, hidden damage is discovered and customers need accurate information.
What we offer is a workplace where ownership and management are involved, expectations are becoming increasingly clear and strong employees have an opportunity to develop.
Our working principles are straightforward:
- Write what can be supported.
- Document what was found.
- Communicate problems early.
- Follow the file instead of assuming someone else handled it.
- Treat technicians, customers, suppliers and coworkers respectfully.
- Learn from corrections rather than hiding mistakes.
- Focus on repairing the vehicle correctly and keeping the customer informed.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Inspecting vehicles and documenting visible collision damage
- Taking clear and organized estimate photographs
- Writing initial collision-repair estimates
- Identifying damaged components and required repair operations
- Reviewing existing estimates and insurance information
- Preparing straightforward supplements when additional damage is discovered
- Collecting technician notes, photographs and supporting documentation
- Following up on pending approvals and outstanding file requirements
- Reviewing repair files for missing information
- Communicating with customers regarding the estimate and general repair process
- Working with technicians to clarify repair requirements
- Coordinating with parts and production staff when estimating information affects the repair
- Following ICBC procedures and company file standards
- Researching repair procedures when required
- Maintaining accurate notes in the repair-management system
- Escalating complex structural, technical or insurance issues to a senior team member or manager
- Helping ensure assigned files continue moving instead of becoming unnecessarily delayed
The exact file volume and complexity assigned to you will depend on your demonstrated experience.
What We Are Not Expecting
You are not required to arrive as a senior estimator who can independently solve every structural, OEM, insurance and production issue.
You will not be expected to pretend you know something when you do not.
We would rather have someone who identifies a question early, asks for the correct information and learns from the answer than someone who guesses and creates a larger problem later.
The Person We Are Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Understand the basic collision-repair process
- Have experience writing or assisting with automotive repair estimates
- Can identify common repair and replacement operations
- Take accurate photographs and write useful file notes
- Are comfortable speaking with customers
- Can accept estimate corrections without becoming defensive
- Follow through on pending approvals, supplements and open tasks
- Stay organized while handling several active files
- Communicate early when information is missing
- Are willing to research OEM repair requirements
- Understand that a complete estimate requires more than listing visibly damaged parts
- Want to improve your estimating skill rather than remain at the same level
- Can work as part of an office and production team
This role will not suit someone who regularly leaves files incomplete, waits for others to discover problems or treats follow-up as somebody else’s responsibility.
Qualifications
- Approximately one to three years of collision-estimating, repair-planning or closely related automotive experience is preferred
- Previous ICBC claims experience is an asset
- Experience with collision-repair management or estimating software is an asset
- Knowledge of automotive construction, repair methods and parts terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using computers, email and digital photographs
- Valid driver’s licence
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Candidates with less direct estimating experience may still be considered if they have a strong automotive background and can demonstrate relevant technical knowledge.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary of $57,000–$65,000, based on demonstrated experience and estimating ability
- Full-time, permanent employment
- Consistent weekday work
- Extended health and dental benefits after the qualifying period, with employer contribution
- Exposure to ICBC files and a wide variety of vehicle repairs
- Opportunities to develop stronger repair-planning and estimating skills
- Access to management and experienced team members for complex files
- Opportunity to advance toward a senior estimator or repair-planner position as ability and results develop
- A locally owned company where performance is visible and recognized
