PROFILE SUMMARY
Wesgroup is poised for substantial growth over the next several years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, driven, and detail-oriented Field Virtual Design & Construction Services Technologist to join our Construction team. This is a highly field-oriented role that involves regular travel to active construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland, providing hands-on support to project teams and construction operations.
In this site-focused role, you will support active construction projects through the use of digital construction technologies, including robotic layout systems, LiDAR scanning, and other reality capture equipment. Working closely with our VDC team, project teams, site staff, consultants, and trade partners, you will collect field data, support technology-enabled layout activities, and help project teams improve accuracy, efficiency, and digital construction practices.
The ideal candidate is trustworthy, adaptable, comfortable working independently, and enthusiastic about learning new technologies. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in construction technology, surveying, engineering technology, architecture, or a related field who enjoys being hands-on, working across multiple project sites, and contributing to innovation in the construction environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Operate construction technology equipment, including robotic layout systems, LiDAR scanners, and other reality capture tools.
- Collect field data and site documentation on active construction projects, ensuring information is accurate and organized appropriately.
- Assist project teams with technology-enabled layout, verification activities, and adoption of digital construction technologies.
- Travel between active construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland to support project teams with scheduled site activities and assignments.
- Communicate project updates, observations, and issues to the VDC team and site personnel.
- Safely transport, operate, maintain, and secure company equipment, including specialized construction technology equipment.
- Perform routine equipment checks, report maintenance issues when required, and maintain accurate records related to equipment use and field activities.
- Collaborate with VDC team members and project teams to test, learn, and implement new technologies, workflows, and best practices
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- College, trade, or technical diploma in Construction Technology, Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Geomatics, Architecture, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required. This role supports multiple projects across the Lower Mainland, therefore a reliable vehicle and flexibility to travel between sites is required.
- 1–3 years of experience in construction, engineering technology, surveying, VDC, architecture, or a related field.
- Experience with construction technology, surveying equipment, drones, robotic layout systems, or reality capture tools is considered an asset.
- Experience using software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms is considered an asset.
- Strong technology aptitude and demonstrated ability to learn new software, hardware, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, manage tasks with limited supervision, and adapt to changing construction environments.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with project teams, consultants, and trade partners.
- Commitment to safety, problem-solving, and responsible equipment use.
- Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems / Drone Pilot Certification and Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification are considered assets.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
- Annual Base Salary: The expected salary range for this role is $67,000 - $77,000 per annum. Actual offered salary will depend on individual experience, qualifications, geographic location, market conditions for the role, and internal equity.
