Job Purpose
The Commercial Lines Account Manager is an expert advisor responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial clients, delivering professional and responsive service that includes acquiring, maintaining, and expanding business relationships. This role includes preparing and marketing new business submissions, managing policy documents, performing administrative duties to enhance team efficiency, and developing and maintaining strong relationships with both clients and insurance underwriters.
The Commercial Lines Account Manager serves as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring their commercial insurance needs are met, fostering long-term partnerships, and supporting the overall growth and professionalism of the brokerage.
Key Areas of Accountability
- Assess and review clients’ personal insurance needs and recommend appropriate insurance products based on risk and coverage requirements.
- Develops commercial insurance book through the application of networking, and referrals with a focus on generating new sales.
- Retaining existing book of business by negotiating terms, pricing, and coverage with insurers to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
- Responsible for the renewals of policies that are assigned to their existing book of business
- Respond to new business inquiries though the preparation of accurate quotes.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional coverages to ensure comprehensive protection.
- Manage accounts receivable, including tracking outstanding balances and ensuring timely collection.
- Focus on pursuing exceptional customer service standards which includes but is not limited to: Responding to client inquiries by phone, email, or in person.
- Handle policy changes (e.g., address updates, adding coverages, underwriting updates).
- Assist clients with billing questions, documentation requests, and proof of insurance.
- Track and record claims while being available to support clients through the claims process when a loss occurs as needed.
- Adhere to regulations set out by the Insurance Council and stay up to date with changes to regulations or guidelines issued through the Council.
- Follow process and procedure outlined by RCU Insurance Services Ltd.
- Maintain accurate and complete records in the brokerage management system.
- Maintains appropriate licensing requirements through ongoing Continuing Education (CE) credits.
- Collaborate with team members to meet departmental and brokerage goals.
- Assist colleagues with workflows and provide support to all departments when needed.
Qualifications
- Secondary School Diploma required.
- 2–5 years of experience in insurance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 2 insurance license (active and in good standing).
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in daily work.
- Strong customer service orientation with a focus on helping clients meet their needs and resolve issues.
- Proven team player, contributing to the success of the team and delivering exceptional client outcomes.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Experience in a sales environment, with comfort working toward targets, thresholds, and goal-setting frameworks.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development, including ongoing learning and skill-building.
Educational Requirements
There are four education options available to applicants as follows. The results from successful completion of any of these options are considered valid for a period of one year from completion date. If applicants wait longer than one year to obtain a license, they will be required to rewrite the exam(s).
1. Fundamentals of Insurance and CAIB 2 and 3 - available through IBABC; OR
2. CAIB 1, 2 and 3 - available through IBABC; OR
3. Insurance Institute Courses C11, C130 and C131; OR
4. Insurance Institute General Insurance Essentials Program (Parts 1 and 2), C130 and C131.
Pay: $66,756.12-$89,008.16 per year
