The Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge is seeking applications for a number of Sessional Lecturer positions within all aspects of our program, including Professional Semester I, Professional Semester II, Professional Semester III, as well as Education electives and Education 2500 courses in the undergraduate teacher education program.
- Education 2500 is offered on the Lethbridge Campus in the Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter (Jan-April) and Summer Session I (May-June) semesters and on the Calgary Campus in Summer Session I semester only. Practicum placements are made locally in each respective city.
- Professional Semester I (PSI) courses are offered in the Fall semester (Sept-Oct) and typically include supervision of students in their practicum from Nov-Dec.
- Professional Semester II (PSII) courses are offered in the Winter semester (Jan-Feb).
- Both PSI and PSII have a practicum component for students and we invite applications specific to supervision in schools for these semesters. PSI practicum runs five weeks in November/December with a supervision load between 6 and 12 students and PSII runs six weeks in March/April with a supervision load between 4 and 8 students.
- Professional Semester III includes supervision of students in their practicum for full terms in either Fall or Winter terms.
- Contracts which include supervision require travel within your area. As our placements span from Calgary to Milk River and from Irvine to the Crowsnest Pass, you must be prepared to travel throughout Southern Alberta. - Education elective courses are offered in the Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter (Jan-April), Summer Session I (May-June) and Summer Session II (July) semesters.
Depending on the applicant’s interests, sessional lecturers may be assigned up to 3 courses in a contract period.
Applications are encouraged from all qualified individuals including retired K-12 Teachers and Administrators. We are interested in receiving applications from people with expertise in school curriculum areas. As well, applicants with expertise in any of our other core teaching areas (e.g., Foundations, Educational Psychology and/or Special/Inclusive Education, and Indigenous Education) are also encouraged to apply.
General qualifications include:
- A Bachelor of Education degree and Professional Teaching Certification is required. A Masters degree is desirable.
- Interest in the professional preparation/development of teachers
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with colleagues and student teachers
- Fluency with curriculum as well as current theories and practices in areas of expertise
- Previous involvement in a university field experience program as a teacher associate or mentor teacher is desirable
Each applicant is asked to specify the curricular areas and grade levels in which he/she has the greatest experience or qualification, and to describe any unique educational experiences (e.g., working in Indigenous schools and communities; alternative education programs; leadership; technology integration, etc.) that may be of value to the program.
