This charge nurse position is part of the interdisciplinary team at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and provides safe patient centred care on a 22 bed Older Adult Psychiatry Rehabilitation Unit. The charge nurse will effectively manage charge responsibilities as well as transition coordination activities such as triaging admission referrals, admitting patients, discharge planning and coordination, and liaising with AHS and external agencies, as well as support patient care and transition coordination. Evidence based nursing process is applied to achieve excellence in mood disorders, thought disorders, and dementia care. The successful candidate must possess good decision-making skills, exercise sound judgment, and be able to work effectively in stressful situations with competing priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a necessity, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of nursing clinical best practice standards/protocols and nursing practice fundamentals is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate respect and professionalism with staff, patients, families, and others. They must have the ability to create an empowering work environment, support knowledge transfer, and possess clear and assertive communication skills, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. Recent charge nurse experience is required.

Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years charge nurse experience. Experience working with older adults. Strong mental health status examination and mental health assessment skills. Working knowledge and experience in rehabilitation. Working experience creating inpatient care plans. Working knowledge of the dsm-5. Ability to recognize changes in patient behaviour and apply de-escalation techniques. Working knowledge of suicide risk assessment and harm reduction. IV certification and working knowledge of alaris pumps. Working knowledge of legislation such as mental health act, hia, ppic, strong communication skills to engage with patients and families. Strong leadership and mentorship skills, takes part in student precepting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Connect Care AMH training completed. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). I.V. certification and current Alaris pump training. CoAct/CareHub experience preferred.
