The Project Buyer is responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, rental equipment, subcontracted services, and other project requirements supporting industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and capital projects. The role works closely with Estimating, Project Management, Operations, and Project Controls and Finance to ensure materials and services are sourced competitively, delivered on schedule, and aligned with project requirements.
- Procure materials, equipment, rentals, and services in accordance with company procedures.
- Obtain quotations, evaluate supplier proposals, and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms.
- Issue and manage purchase orders and procurement documentation.
- Develop procurement plans and support project kick-off activities.
- Track critical material deliveries and expedite orders to support project schedules.
- Support subcontractor sourcing, bid evaluations, and subcontract administration.
- Maintain supplier and subcontractor relationships and monitor performance.
- Coordinate logistics, freight, and delivery schedules with suppliers and project teams.
- Resolve material discrepancies, shortages, damaged goods, and backorders.
- Maintain procurement records within ERP and procurement systems.
- Generate procurement reports, spend analysis, and supplier performance metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Procurement Department.
- Experience supporting industrial construction, maintenance, fabrication, or capital projects preferred.
- Experience purchasing mechanical, piping, structural, electrical, or instrumentation materials.
- 3–7 years of procurement or purchasing experience.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- SCMP, PMAC, or Supply Chain Canada designation considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain management principles.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Negotiation and commercial management skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems; experience with Macsto ERP considered an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
