Position Summary
The Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting & Data Analytics supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the Club while assisting with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and business analytics. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working with financial data, identifying trends, and helping management make informed business decisions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, assisting with month-end reporting, and developing meaningful reports and analytics that support the Club's operations, membership, dining, wellness, fitness, and athletic programs. The position will also assist the Executive Director of Finance in ad hoc projects, presentations or reporting required.
Hours of Work 40/week, Monday-Friday 9-5 pm (May be required to work evenings during audit and annual general meeting).
Key Responsibilities – Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and maintain general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
- Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll reconciliations as required.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and compliant with Club policies.
- Assist with annual audit preparation and auditor requests.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
- Assist with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Support monthly forecast updates and variance analysis.
- Investigate budget-to-actual variances and provide explanations to management.
- Analyze departmental revenues and expenses to identify trends and opportunities.
- Prepare financial analyses to support operational decision-making.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain recurring financial and operational reports.
- Assist in creating dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze trends related to membership activity and retention, food & beverage performance, court and program utilization, wellness and fitness services, event revenues and attendance, and labour and staffing costs.
- Extract, validate, and analyze data from Club systems and databases.
- Support management with ad hoc reporting and business analysis requests.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Assist in maintaining financial and operational reporting systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency.
- Support system implementations, testing, and reporting enhancements.
- Help ensure data integrity across financial and operational systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Pursuing CPA designation or recently completed CPA designation is preferred.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience.
- Experience with month-end accounting processes and reconciliations.
- Experience preparing financial reports and performing data analysis.
- Hospitality, club, recreation, or service industry experience is considered an asset.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems.
- Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting tools is an asset.

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
