About the Role
This is a strategic, individual contributor role responsible for purchasing, inventory control, and logistics optimization across our Prairie operations -- Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. You will be the primary owner of regional procurement decisions, SAP inventory transactions, and outbound freight planning. Working within a hub-and-spoke distribution model, you will drive down inventory carrying costs, reduce variances, and eliminate reactive purchasing through disciplined min/max management and consolidated ordering.
Manufacturing and warehousing in Regina are conducted by our toll blending partner. You will coordinate closely with them on inbound and outbound inventory movements while maintaining full ownership of the corresponding SAP transactions on the Pace side.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Inventory Planning
- Own regional purchasing decisions with full PO signing authority within defined thresholds.
- Develop and maintain min/max parameters for all SKUs across Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg to eliminate reactive ordering.
- Execute aggregate purchasing strategies by consolidating orders across the region to maximize volume leverage and reduce frequency of spot buys.
- Monitor inventory levels and demand signals to generate forward-looking purchase plans aligned with seasonal patterns and regional sales forecasts.
- Identify and resolve root causes of stockouts or overstock situations; recommend and implement corrective action.
SAP Transactions & Inventory Accuracy
- Own all SAP inventory transactions for the Prairie region: purchase orders, goods receipts, sales order shipping status, inter-warehouse stock transfers, stock adjustments, and goods issue postings.
- Process simulated receipts and shipments for Regina in coordination with partnered local supplier, ensuring SAP reflects physical inventory movements backed by Bills of Lading (BOLs).
- Lead and coordinate regular cycle counts and periodic full inventory audits across all three Prairie locations.
- Investigate and resolve inventory variances promptly; maintain a low-variance track record as a key performance indicator.
- Work with Finance and Operations to ensure SAP data integrity supports accurate financial reporting.
Logistics Optimization
- Plan and optimize outbound freight from Regina to Alberta, Manitoba, and BC using a hub-and-spoke model -- targeting consolidated full-truckload (FTL) shipments on a regular cadence (e.g., weekly splits between Calgary and Edmonton).
- Manage and optimize inter-site transfer schedules between Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg to minimize cost and maximize fill rates.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate rates with carriers and 3PL providers for regular lane pricing; formalize preferred carrier agreements.
- Track freight costs and service performance; flag variances and recommend adjustments to routing or carrier mix.
- Continuously look for consolidation and load optimization opportunities to reduce cost-per-unit shipped.
Vendor & Supplier Relations
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers; negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms proactively.
- Coordinate with our local supplier on manufacturing schedules, inbound material receipts, and outbound shipment planning.
- Track supplier performance including on-time delivery, fill rates, and quality; escalate issues as needed.
Sales Support & Proactive Communication
- Serve as a proactive logistics partner to the regional Sales team by flagging shipment delays, supply constraints, or fulfillment risks before they become customer issues.
- Monitor in-transit orders and inbound supply against expected lead times; communicate exceptions to Sales with clear expected resolution timelines.
- Provide Sales with forward visibility on inventory availability, planned replenishment dates, and any SKUs at risk of short supply.
- Participate in regular touchpoints with the Sales team to align on upcoming demand, promotions, or customer commitments that require supply chain coordination.
- Support order prioritization decisions during constrained supply periods in collaboration with Sales and Operations leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or logistics (preferably in an industrial, agricultural, or chemical products environment).
- Hands-on ERP experience with inventory management transactions (goods receipt, transfer orders, stock adjustments); ability to operate independently without IT support for day-to-day transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage min/max systems and drive down inventory carrying costs.
