Purpose
Canoe Territory Managers are responsible for growing and strengthening relationships with municipal, provincial and federal agencies, public sector, non-profit, academic and Indigenous organizations within an assigned territory. The role focuses on increasing membership participation, driving utilization of Canoe programs, supporting strategic supplier relationships and delivering exception member service.
Reporting to the Manager of Business Development, the successful candidate acts as a trusted advisor, helping our members leverage purchasing solutions that create efficiencies, reduce costs and ensure compliant procurement practices.
Term: This is a temporary role for maternity leave coverage
Responsibilities and Activities
Territory Growth & Business Development
- Develop and execute strategic territory plans to increase membership growth and contract utilization.
- Identify and engage prospective member organizations across municipalities, provincial and federal government agencies, Indigenous communities, educational institutions, healthcare, housing, and non-profit sectors.
- Conduct presentations, consultations, and discovery meetings with key member departments.
- Maintain a healthy member pipeline and achieve annual membership and utilization targets.
- Attend industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and association meetings.
Member Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with exiting member organizations.
- Serve as the main contact of member inquiries, escalations and account management.
- Conduct regular business reviews to identify opportunities for increased program participation and savings.
- Ensure high level of member satisfaction, retention, and engagement.
- Gather feedback and communicate member needs to internal stakeholders.
Procurement Program Suppport
- Educate members on available cooperative purchasing contracts and procurement solutions.
- Promote compliance, transparency, and value driven procurement practices.
- Work collaboratively with suppliers and members to facilitate successful contract implementation.
- Assist members in understanding procurement processes and leveraging Canoe agreements effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with supplier partners to support contract awareness and utilization.
- Build relationships with municipal leaders, procurement professionals, and member senior management teams.
- Act as a brand ambassador representing Canoe's values and member focused philosophy.
- Participate in strategic initiatives to enhance member value and market presence.
Reporting & Administration
- Maintain accurate records.
- Track territory performance metrics and provide regular activity reports.
- Forecast opportunities and manage member pipeline activities.
- Monitor market trends.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, Commerce, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of business development, account management, member relationship management, or public sector sales experience.
- Experience working with municipalities, government agencies, Indigenous communities, education, healthcare, or non-profit organizations.
- Knowledge of procurement, cooperative purchasing, or public sector purchasing.
- Strong consultative selling and relationship building skills.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated, strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with CRM platforms and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Must hold a G Class Drivers License.
