Overview
This hands-on role blends ingredient preparation, menu execution, and kitchen support to deliver Indigenous-inspired cuisine. The Line/Prep Cook ensures every dish meets the restaurant’s standards for quality, presentation, and consistency while supporting smooth kitchen operations. Success in this position requires attention to detail, efficiency in a fast-paced environment, and a collaborative approach, delivered in a culturally respectful manner that reflects the community and region.
This full-time, on-site position at the Baymont Hotel in Gold River. It offers an hourly wage of $21 to $23, based on experience. A relocation and benefits package is included.
Location
The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, a territory located on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and menu requirements.
- Cook menu items during service, ensuring quality, taste, and presentation standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout prep and service.
- Assist with inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages.
- Follow portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and manage costs.
- Assist with daily setup and closing tasks, including cleaning and storing equipment.
- Support the development of new menu items by preparing test recipes when needed.
- Follow health and safety protocols at all times.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure timely service.
- Handle waste and recycling responsibly, following sustainable practices.
- Contribute to the positive and respectful team culture.
Minimum Qualifications (Education / Training / Certifications)
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a line/prep cook in a fast-paced commercial kitchen. Red Seal endorsement as a cook is required (or proof of eligibility to obtain it within an agreed timeframe).
- FOODSAFE Level 1 (or ability to obtain promptly) is required. Solid knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or similar environment an asset, but not required.
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation and kitchen safety practices is an asset.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Other:
- A valid Drivers license, with access to own transportation vehicle.
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
