Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Services, the Medical Radiation Technologist is responsible for the delivery of patient centered care while operating the imaging equipment with minimal supervision, utilizing the CMRITO Standards of Practice and Organizational Policies and Procedures, under the direction of a Radiologist. The Registered Technologist will perform a variety of Radiographic examinations at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of quality.
The Registered Technologist has responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the designated X-Ray suite. This includes instruction of students and direction of staff while in the area i.e. hospital personnel, maintenance, and cleaning staff. The Registered Technologist will also assist with training of new staff as required.
The Registered Technologist will perform imaging procedures and patient care duties, utilizing the ALARA principal during the administration of ionizing radiation. The department requires a team approach to assigned duties. The Registered Technologist will ensure efficient and effective working environment while ensuring patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Degree in Radiation Sciences from a recognized university
- Preceptor course through Mohawk and McMaster are preferred
- CAMRT Certification in Radiography is required
- Current registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required
- Membership in the CAMRT and OAMRS is preferred
- Current X-Ray experience (within last 12 months) required
- Ability to provide direct patient care in General Radiology, Portable Radiography and Operating Room examinations
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors and their families
- CPR Certified Basic Rescuer (C) preferred
- Works in compliance with all applicable hospital policies and procedures
- Demonstrate patient excellence
- Strong team player that demonstrates initiative, responsibility and organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good computer and problem-solving skills
- Ability to produce maximum image quality, adapting technical factors and accessories, considering patient condition, exam required and history to acquire these images
- Ability to perform imaging accurately, thoroughly and timely
- Contribute to all educational initiatives and student training
- Evidence of continued education and learning
Responsibilities
- Performs the examination ensuring that any additional images required are completed, completes exam documentation in a timely manner, and reviews images on PACS
- Communicates with peers regarding changes or needs throughout the shift
- Work as a team to complete the work in the area for the shift
- Follow all safety guidelines to ensure that the patients are being imaged in radiology while utilizing the ALARA principal
- Follow infection control guidelines for the exam room, patient care and equipment maintenance
- Reports any issues within the area to the designated X-Ray Senior Technologist
- Troubleshoot any equipment issues
- Reports any technical issues with equipment to the MVS provider as well as the Senior Technologist and Manager of the area
- Assist with the training of new staff in the area
- Assist with the training of student learners in the area
- Perform daily and weekly maintenance and necessary quality control on equipment in accordance to established protocols and document results
- Participates in the continued development of protocols as required
