Prairie North Construction is seeking a surveyor to support civil earthworks, infrastructure, and industrial construction projects across Alberta.
This role will work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to provide accurate survey control, layout, and as-built data for large-scale earthworks operations.
We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, technically capable, and comfortable working both in the field and office environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout and staking for earthworks, roads, utilities, and structural features
- Establish and maintain site survey control networks
- Perform topographic surveys and as-built surveys
- Process and manage survey data using Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, or similar software
- Prepare machine control models and staking files for GPS-enabled equipment (Trimble & Topcon)
- Coordinate survey deliverables with project managers and field operations
- Ensure survey data is accurate, organized, and documented according to company standards
- Support drone and LiDAR data collection where required
- Assist with volume calculations, surface creation, and reporting
Equipment & Technology
Work will involve modern survey equipment and software including:
- Trimble GNSS equipment
- DJI Drone
- Trimble Access
- Trimble Business Center
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Drone / LiDAR technology (experience considered an asset)
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or Civil Engineering Technology (preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience)
- 3+ years of construction survey experience preferred
- Experience working on civil construction or earthworks projects
- Proficiency with GNSS survey equipment
- Experience with Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center (considered an asset)
- Transport Canada RPAS (Drone) License (considered an asset)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage and organize survey data
Preferred Skills
- Experience with machine control models (Trimble, Topcon)
- Knowledge of construction grading and earthworks practices
- Experience with LiDAR or drone mapping
- Ability to work independently in field environments
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position may involve a mix of field, office work, with a significant amount of time spent outdoors on active construction sites.
Candidates must be able to:
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow
- Walk long distances across rough terrain, slopes, and active construction areas
- Carry and operate survey equipment and field gear
- Maintain focus and accuracy during long field days
- Follow all site safety requirements and PPE standards
The ideal candidate is physically capable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in demanding field environments.
Travel & Project Assignments
This role supports projects across Alberta and may require extended periods of out-of-town work depending on project location and schedule.
Candidates should be comfortable with:
- Working on remote project sites
- Extended stays away from home when required
- Flexible schedules based on construction operations and project timelines
