Job Summary
The Fabrication & Assembly Technician is responsible for performing a variety of manufacturing duties, including metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and quality inspection. Working from blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings, the incumbent fabricates components, assembles mechanical products, and ensures finished products meet established quality and safety standards. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to safely operate hand tools, pneumatic tools, and fabrication equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Gather and verify materials and components required for production orders.
- Measure, cut, shape, and form raw materials using fabrication equipment and hand tools.
- Operate equipment including shears, rollers, grinders, manual press machines, and pneumatic tools.
- Assemble fabricated components using spot welding, bolts, rivets, and other fastening methods.
- Perform basic metal finishing and ensure components meet dimensional and quality specifications.
- Inspect completed parts for accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with quality standards.
Valve Actuator Assembly
- Pick and verify components required for assembly orders.
- Read and follow assembly instructions, work orders, and technical drawings.
- Assemble valve actuators and install them onto valve assemblies using hand and pneumatic tools.
- Perform functional testing and quality inspections to ensure proper fit, alignment, and operation.
- Identify and report any defects or discrepancies to the supervisor.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company health and safety policies, standard operating procedures, quality requirements and safe work practices.
- Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and other equipment as required.
- Properly use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with other production duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Skills
- Mechanical aptitude with experience using hand and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to safely operate equipment such as shears, grinders, rollers, manual press machines, spot welding equipment, pneumatic drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other production tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical assembly is considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to frequently bend, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs (18 kg).
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment where temperatures may become warm due to fabrication processes and production equipment.
Flexible Hours
- Full time, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
- New hires: 8am – 430pm or 8:30am - 5pm
- Flexible hours are available after training is complete
- Flexible break schedule
