Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Directional Drilling Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of directional drilling operations. This role is responsible for managing field crews, ensuring project execution, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, optimizing operational performance, and supporting business growth. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) with proven leadership and project management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee multiple directional drilling projects from planning through completion.
- Develop drilling plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies.
- Monitor project performance, productivity, and profitability.
- Coordinate equipment, personnel, subcontractors, and materials to meet project requirements.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate drilling supervisors, operators, and support personnel.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to field teams.
- Lead daily and weekly operational planning meetings.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies.
- Conduct jobsite inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Promote proactive risk identification and mitigation strategies.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting.
Technical Oversight
- Review utility locates, bore path designs, and drilling plans.
- Provide technical guidance on drilling methods, equipment selection, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor drilling fluid management and bore integrity.
- Support crews in resolving field challenges and changing site conditions.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, engineers, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings and provide operational updates.
- Address customer concerns and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
- Support business development efforts through technical expertise and relationship management.
Financial Management
- Review project costs, labor utilization, equipment expenses, and production metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of directional drilling or HDD experience.
- 3+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of underground utility installation, bore planning, and HDD equipment.
- Experience managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to visit active construction sites and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and inspect drilling operations.

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
