About the Role
We are hiring a Canteen Cook to support our on-site staff canteen at our Windsor facility.
This is a hands-on role responsible for preparing staff meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, following food safety standards, and supporting the day-to-day operation of the canteen.
The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, comfortable working independently, and able to prepare simple, consistent meals in a workplace environment.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and cook staff meals such as sandwiches, soups, pasta, stir-fry, burgers, baked items, and other lunch offerings
- Prepare meals from planned menus
- Serve meals during scheduled lunch periods
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and canteen area
- Complete full end-of-shift dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, sanitation, and kitchen reset duties
- Organize and clean refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, workstations, and kitchen equipment
- Follow proper food handling, food separation, sanitation, and storage procedures
- Assist with inventory organization and communicate supply needs to management
- Accommodate reasonable dietary needs such as vegetarian or no-meat options
- Report kitchen or equipment issues to management
What We’re Looking For
- Valid Ontario Food Handler Certification required
- Previous cooking, food preparation, cafeteria, catering, or kitchen experience preferred
- Relevant culinary training or college education may also be considered
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable, punctual, and organized
- Able to handle food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, and kitchen upkeep responsibilities
- Strong communication skills
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift food supplies as required
- Able to communicate effectively in English in a workplace kitchen environment
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $21/hour
- Part-time permanent position
