As a key player in the financial services marketplace of Northern Ontario, we are excited to announce that we are currently seeking a temporary (18-month contract) Communications and Community Investment Specialist.
The Communications and Community Investment Specialist plays a key role in strengthening Northern’s presence within the communities we serve by leading communications, community investment, employee engagement, and outreach initiatives aligned with Northern’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Working collaboratively with branch teams, internal departments, and community partners, this role develops programs and relationships that create measurable impact while enhancing Northern’s reputation as a trusted community partner.
This role provides strategic and hands-on support for marketing campaigns and promotions by developing copy, content, and communication strategies that align with campaign objectives, key performance indicators, and organizational goals. Responsibilities include creating content for digital channels such as social media, websites, Google, online banking, and mobile applications, as well as print and in-branch materials including posters, handouts, brochures, and advertisements.
The Communications and Community Investment Specialist coordinates and oversees community investment initiatives across Northern’s footprint, including fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, community events, and employee volunteer activities. This role manages funding approvals, budgets, reporting, and performance tracking while evaluating initiatives through key performance indicators and post-event analysis to ensure alignment with CSR priorities and maximize community impact.
Representing Northern at community events and through outreach activities, this role builds strong relationships with local organizations, identifies opportunities to enhance partnerships, and contributes to communications and promotional efforts that reinforce Northern’s commitment to the communities we serve.
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, Community Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in communications, community engagement, marketing, fundraising, event coordination, CSR, or a related field.
- Experience developing communications strategies and creating content for digital and print channels.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create engaging marketing and communications content.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience coordinating events, community investment initiatives, grants, or sponsorship programs.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience managing budgets, preparing reports, and evaluating program outcomes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Northern's service area and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Salary Range: $50,800.00 to $63,500.00
