Oakville and Milton, Ontario
Full-time hybrid role
$24–$30 per hour suggested, based on experience
V.I.L. Landscaping is looking for a creative, practical person who wants to do more than sit behind a computer.
You’ll help design beautiful outdoor spaces, create planting plans, visit active projects, work with suppliers, and ensure the finished work matches the original vision.
This role is ideal for someone who loves plants and design but is also comfortable walking job sites, driving a pickup truck, coordinating materials, and solving real-world problems.
What You’ll Do
- Create landscape concepts and presentation plans.
- Prepare planting plans and select appropriate plants.
- Visit properties to collect measurements, photographs, and site information.
- Revise designs based on client needs, budget, and site conditions.
- Clearly communicate design intent to project managers and crews.
- Lay out plants and assist with field design decisions.
- Visit active projects and inspect the quality of the work.
- Identify deficiencies before they become larger problems.
- Document corrections and follow up until they are completed.
- Build positive relationships with nurseries and suppliers.
- Coordinate plant and material orders, pickups, and deliveries.
- Drive a company pickup truck when required.
- Support planting and enhancement work when needed.
- Learn small-equipment operation as the role develops.
Who We’re Looking For
You are:
- Creative but also practical.
- Knowledgeable or highly interested in plants and horticulture.
- Comfortable using landscape design software.
- Able to notice details that other people miss.
- Pleasant and professional with clients, suppliers, and crews.
- Organized and able to follow tasks through to completion.
- Comfortable working in both an office and the field.
- Confident driving a pickup truck.
- Interested in understanding how landscapes are actually built.
A valid G driver’s licence is required.
Preferred Experience
- Landscape design, horticulture, or related education
- Residential landscape design
- Planting plans and plant selection
- 2D or 3D landscape design software
- Landscape construction or project coordination
- Working with nurseries and suppliers
- Construction quality inspections
Mechanical ability is an added advantage. Experience with oil changes, basic brake work, minor equipment repairs, or hydraulic hoses would be valuable, but it is not required.
What Success Looks Like
- Your designs are attractive and practical to build.
- Crews receive clear plans and planting layouts.
- Plants and materials arrive when they are needed.
- Mistakes are caught early.
- Deficiencies are followed through until corrected.
- Finished projects meet V.I.L.’s quality standards.
