CBC Calgary is looking for an energetic senior communications officer to execute strategies, projects and initiatives to support CBC’s digital, radio and television programming, community engagement efforts and public outreach in Calgary and southern Alberta.
Reporting to the senior regional manager of communications and marketing, the successful candidate will have a passion for CBC, a flair for connecting with audiences, a desire to take risks and experiment, and a diversity of thought and connections. A strategic thinker and natural collaborator, you are the kind of person who thrives in fast-paced environments and relishes that no two days are the same.
You will understand the diverse and changing population in Calgary and southern Alberta, and the importance of broadening the range of perspectives, experiences and points of view reflected on our programming, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media.
Your responsibilities:
Advance a strategic shift to grow CBC’s connections with younger, diverse audiences, creating strategies to identify new audiences and reach people where they are.
Lead and develop community engagement for CBC in Calgary and southern Alberta. Work closely with community partners and editorial colleagues on station initiatives, outreach opportunities, community events and stakeholder engagement.
Develop and implement strategic integrated marketing plans to promote our programming and the CBC brand across all platforms (social, digital, radio, TV).
Create and executive innovative social media strategies that deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.
Execute, manage and monitor campaigns from conception to implementation, analyzing performance and optimizing content.
Collaborate with teams across CBC to elevate national priorities and campaigns.
Cultivate and manage relationships with internal and external partners.
Create and develop promotional concepts, approaches and campaigns that promote brand initiatives along with our strategic priorities.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Post-secondary certificate, diploma or a university degree in Communications/Public Relations or Marketing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Five or more years of experience in communications, public relations and/or marketing.
A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Calgary and southern Alberta, and experience in developing strategies to connect with new, younger and more diverse audiences
Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, with exemplary attention to detail and ability to adapt writing for different audiences and platforms.
Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.
Negotiation skills with the ability to navigate complex issues to bring about an agreement.
Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate events (in-person and virtual).
Ability to create and execute paid advertising strategies, analyze results and adjust tactics to increase engagement.
Ability to leverage research data to drive marketing decisions.
Strong social media marketing skills, with a keen understanding of digital/social trends and demonstrable success in creating and executing strategies/campaigns and managing business channels.
Experience with InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop with an understanding of print and digital specs for creative outputs.
A results-oriented, enthusiastic and reliable team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a demonstrated solutions-focus and a positive attitude.
A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity, inclusion and a respectful work culture.
Demonstrated connection to and knowledge of diverse cultures including but not limited to, Black, South Asian, Chinese, Filipino and Indigenous audiences and communities.
Knowledge of languages including but not limited to, Mandarin, Tagalog, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish or any Indigenous languages are considered an asset.
Ability to work in the CBC Calgary office, and the ability to travel to locations across Alberta.
Flexibility in work hours as operations demand, including the ability to work shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.
Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
