Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our client's fast-paced Medical-Surgical unit. The RN will provide safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care to patients experiencing a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, post-operative needs, and complex health concerns.
The successful candidate will perform comprehensive assessments, develop and evaluate individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, provide patient and family education, and collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing physical, psychosocial, and functional assessments.
- Monitor and analyze changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care using the nursing process.
- Provide nursing care to patients with acute, chronic, and post-surgical conditions.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and prescribed treatments in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, fluid balance, pain levels, and treatment responses.
- Perform wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, mobility assistance, and other nursing procedures within scope of practice.
- Recognize signs of clinical deterioration and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Provide extensive education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, recovery, and follow-up care.
- Support discharge planning and coordinate with community, rehabilitation, and home-care services as required.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic patient records.
- Promote patient dignity, privacy, infection prevention, safety, and confidentiality.
- Act in an in-charge, charge nurse, or leadership role when assigned.
- Support orientation, mentoring, workflow coordination, and team-building activities.
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and professional-development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Graduate of an approved nursing education program.
- Strong physical and psychosocial assessment skills.
- Strong crisis intervention, critical decision-making, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to prioritize the care of multiple patients with changing clinical needs.
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good computer and electronic health record skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
- Recent medical-surgical, acute-care, or hospital nursing experience.
- Experience with intravenous therapy, wound care, telemetry, or post-operative nursing.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
- Previous charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical leadership experience.
Pay: $58.98-$62.42 per hour
Licence/Certification:
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (required)
- BLS Certification (required)
