The Clean Sweep Program (CSP) Foreperson is responsible for assisting the CSP Manager with the implementation of the Clean Sweep/Hotspot Program and Needle Debris Collection Program.
These programs seek to positively contribute to a clean, safe, and vibrant urban core, with specific attention to Downtown Lethbridge. The programs also provide individuals experiencing homelessness with opportunities to engage in employment activities. Participants receive an hourly stipend and are supported in developing employment, financial, and literacy skills. These stipend team members will report directly to the Foreperson.
CSP Foreperson Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
● Daily reporting to the CSP Manager
● Mentor and oversee a team of five stipend team members for four hours per day comprised of individuals currently experiencing homelessness
● Transportation of team members to CSP and needle debris hotspot locations in Downtown Lethbridge and also other parts of the community
● Ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained in the downtown commercial district through the participating in the delivery of the following CSP services: Cleaning up garbage and litter, sweeping, and general cleaning of sidewalks, lanes, and curbs on a year-round basis; Pressure washing sidewalks and street furniture (i.e. benches, garbages, and flower planters); Graffiti removal from private and infrastructure with landowner permission; Snow removal from priority public areas (i.e. festival square, sidewalk entrances to back lanes, sidewalk ramps, around parking meter kiosks, and around public art; Leaf collection; Basic landscaping including watering and flower planting; Other related tasks as agreed upon by BRZ Executive Director and City of Lethbridge Urban Revitalization Manager
● Provide Support to the Encampment and Biohazard program by driving truck/trailer for coordinated encampment cleanups.
● Provide additional cleaning support to additional needle debris collection hotspot areas within Lethbridge by transporting CSP team members to pre-determined locations to deliver the following needle debris and hot spot services: Cleaning up garbage and litter (including needles and pipes), sweeping and general cleaning of sidewalks, lanes and curbs on a year-round basis
● Maintain and service all CSP equipment and vehicles
● Work with CSP Manager to submit monthly reports to the City of Lethbridge
● Regular removal of contents from permanently installed needle collection boxes
● Distribute sharps containers and dispose of used drug equipment (public locations only) as required to ensure effective collection of drug debris where permanent needle boxes are not available
● Maintain a separate and distinct community hotline for citizens to call when they identify a location(s) where drug-related debris can be found
● Engage in general drug-related debris collection from Hotline input as required. This shall include regularly scheduled sweeps of locations known to be high volume drug activity areas
● Meet with the CSP Manager on a regular basis to provide updates on the status of the programs and team members
● Record and report required data and statistics for the Needle Debris Collection Program
● Provide CSP team members with appropriate safety training, clothing and safety/protective equipment
● Maintain a personal understanding of safety regulations and bylaws as they relate to labor-related work within the downtown commercial district
● Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certificate
Qualifications
● Valid driver’s license (the successful candidate will need to provide a driver’s abstract)
● Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
● Ability to effectively supervise and prioritize tasks with minimal direction
● Mechanically inclined and able to deliver preventative and corrective maintenance for small equipment such as leaf blowers and pressure washer
● Ability to safely operate a ¾ ton truck and trailer combination
● Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset
● Valid WHMIS certification is an asset
● Practical knowledge of occupational health and safety
● Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Hours of Work
40 hours per week.
Shifts will vary based on the season and the needs of the CSP Manager but generally follow the schedule below:
Monday to Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Pay: $40,000.00 per year
