In partnership with Right to Play's Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) the Community Mentor Position will be responsible for the planning and implementation of a program geared toward children and youth. The Community Mentor will report directly to both a Community Supervisor and an assigned Right to Play Program Officer (as per grant requirements). One year to fill in maternity leave (with the possibility of extension). The position requires an availability to work non-standard hours and will involve occasional travel (two to three times per year).
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinate child and youth programming that incorporates language, sport, and culture
2. Collaborate with local schools and youth to discuss planning and share information
3. Design a program schedule to fit participants’ individual and group needs and interests
4. Create healthy relationships with children and youth who participate in the program
5. Procure materials and equipment necessary for program sessions and coordinate logistics
6. Attend and travel to one mandatory training annually and remote trainings as required
7. Plan, design, and host three intergenerational programs annually
8. Complete monthly progress and finance reports
9. Facilitate sharing circles and/or conduct surveys with participants to gather feedback on the program and share information with Right to Play
Qualifications
Education:
• Diploma in Community Services, Recreation and Leisure, Social Work or ECE, or equivalent community and/or youth work experience
• Food Safe, Level 1 First Aid (or willing to get)

Training:
• Training will be provided in effective leadership and recreation programming for young people, age 7-20
•
Experience:
• One year experience planning and facilitating events
• 6 months to 1 year of experience working/engaging with children/youth
• Knowledge/understanding of Secwepemc culture and traditions
Conditions of Employment:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
• Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (Class 4 license preferred and reflected in pay rate)
• Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements
Salary: $18-00 - $21.00 per hour
