PHYT 6115 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy III (MSK 3) [Fall Term, September 8th – December 20th, inclusive of Exam Period] (Multiple Positions Available)
Course Description:
This course will apply and expand concepts from MSK I and MSK II to areas of special focus in musculoskeletal conditions, including sports injuries, paediatric orthopaedics, and psychosocial conditions. Using individual cases from recent clinical placements, students will reflect on the patient treatment program and revise this program to include further knowledge in manual therapy and psychosocial factors that can be used in future to improve students’ treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
Work Assignment:
The laboratory instructor/tutorial facilitator will assist the course professor by teaching advanced musculoskeletal material to Year 2 MScPT students in the practical/lab sessions and as a tutorial facilitator session. Lab and tutorial content will be available electronically prior to the sessions, including practical clinical skills of the various physical assessments and treatment approaches.
The position involves helping to demonstrate clinical skills in lab, and hands-on feedback regarding the skills. It also involves facilitating a tutorial (groups of 8-10 students) centred around a patient case study.
Numerous lab instructors and tutorial facilitators will be required to cover the multiple lab and tutorial sessions and specific content. You are not required to be available for all dates, however consistency among instructors for students will be considered and is valued. In addition, particular topics during some labs may utilize select instructors who have more experience. Preference is made to applicants who have more than 3 years of current musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience, and applicants with additional credentialing needed for particular labs.
Labs are to take place at 9:35am-11:25am, and certain days tutorials will also run, starting at 9:35am followed by a 2-hour lab, meaning on certain days the lab will end at 12:25pm.
A 30-minute pre-lab meeting will be required, making the start time 9:00am for lab instructors. Some of the dates will be only lab sessions, some only tutorial sessions, and some both.
