Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Studio Engineering / Vehicle Packaging Engineer to support the development of vehicle concepts from design through production feasibility. This role will serve as the key liaison between Product Design, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure design intent is achieved while meeting engineering, packaging, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in automotive vehicle packaging, digital surface development, studio engineering, and cross-functional program coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage vehicle packaging criteria and bogey models to support feasible Conceptual Digital Data (CDD) surface development.
- Support Product Design Office (PDO) activities including clay model development, theme development, mock-ups, and spaciousness property builds.
- Coordinate PDO fabrication and modeling activities to support design validation.
- Generate milling and SLA data for clay model milling and rapid prototype parts.
- Lead weekly working-level engineering coordination meetings.
- Coordinate cross-functional requirements across Vehicle Integration, Manufacturing Engineering, Safety, HMI, Body Engineering, and related teams.
- Develop Construction Sections and manage the approval process to support CDD Style Freeze releases, including Gap & Flush requirements.
- Challenge engineering constraints while maintaining product feasibility and achieving design intent.
- Verify Conceptual Digital Data (CDD) releases comply with vehicle hardpoints, packaging, tooling, and manufacturing requirements.
- Support weekly Product Design Office Exterior Coordination meetings and communicate project status.
- Ensure Series Card POR content aligns with approved PDO themes and is accurately reflected in CST loops and Visualization BOMs.
- Escalate design or engineering issues that impact program timing or styling objectives.
- Analyze competitive vehicles and industry trends to support future vehicle development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related field.
- 4–10 years of experience in automotive product development, studio engineering, vehicle integration, or vehicle packaging.
- Experience working within an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
- Strong understanding of vehicle packaging, styling feasibility, and production requirements.
- Experience supporting clay models, digital mock-ups, and prototype development.
- Knowledge of Conceptual Digital Data (CDD), Gap & Flush development, and vehicle hardpoints.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and project coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, Alias, or comparable CAD tools.
- Knowledge of Class A surface development and digital surfacing processes.
- Experience with SLA prototyping, CNC/clay milling, and rapid prototype development.
- Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter.
- Understanding of automotive design release processes and manufacturing feasibility.
