About Island Gold Mine: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold Mine is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. With over 550 team members, the underground operation is located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. This has supported a multi-phase expansion of the operation, driving production higher, costs lower, and strong free cash flow growth. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide working mine designs that are accurate, practical, consistent with industry standards, and comply with recommended design guidelines and all applicable codes and regulations
- Produce, properly document, and clearly communicate realistic and workable mining schedules in a timely manner
- Calculate mine cost estimates based on research, consultation, history, convention, calculation, or other logical derivation that are acceptable to management
- Present plans for management decision making in an error-free, well organized, concise, and complete manner, writing brief or comprehensive summaries as requested
- Optimize plans and schedules for pit operations to maximize production
- Undertake continuous improvement projects related to mining or maintenance activities as directed
- Inform stakeholders upstream and downstream (e.g., Geology staff, Short-range Planning Engineers and Operations staff) of plans, recommendations, and requirements, ensuring related calculations are correct and the message is understood
- Undertake field visits, as required (at least twice weekly), to assess current pit status and the accuracy of plans, adjusting plans accordingly to ensure they are realistic
- Perform other related duties as directed
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mining or Geological engineering
- One to three years of related experience in open pit mine planning.
- Knowledge of mining engineering practices, blasting and blast pattern planning
- Knowledge of mine planning and scheduling processes
- The individual should have demonstrated, leadership, a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Genuine sense of urgency in production matters and being proactive in solution finding.
- The incumbent will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effectively present to a variety of groups including technical, professional, business and community groups
- Proficient with mine design suites (AutoCAD, Minesight, Vulcan)
- Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team
The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on a rotational schedule with flights provided from Toronto, Sudbury and Rouyn-Noranda.
