Role: Maintenance Mechanic

Overview:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining industrial equipment in compounding, filling and packaging areas, including PLC systems and automated conveyor production lines while ensuring a high level of safety and quality with minimum emergency down time.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prioritizing and completing all tasks related to equipment set-up, troubleshooting and repairs, attending to PLC problems and overall facility maintenance.
· In collaboration with the Maintenance Supervisor, improve and maintain the CMMS. Make sure that all PM activities and work orders are completed on the CMMS in a timely manner.
· Keep equipment spare parts inventory in strict order. Perform regular parts inventory counts.
· Handle emergency situations and after-hours calls to respective Contractors for repair and maintenance.
· Adhere to and follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the OHSA and the company SOPs. Report any hazards and unsafe conditions to the Company Management in a timely manner.
· Maintain strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
· Ensure accurate record keeping as per requirements of current SOPs, GMP and GDP.
· Participate in scheduling and coordination of works with all outside contractors while ensuring that tasks are completed in a safe manner that comply with all necessary manufacturing codes, regulations, and standards i.e. H&S, GMP's, HACCP, WHMIS, MSDS.
· Effectively communicate daily maintenance activities to Production staff, Quality, Supply chain etc.
· Initiate and actively participate in various Continuous Improvement activities.
· Other tasks and projects as assigned by the Company Management.
Qualifications:
· High school Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
· Possess Electrician or Millwright license.
· Strong knowledge of PLC systems and troubleshooting is an asset (Allen Bradley, Omron)
· Minimum of five (5) years experience working in a related position within the personal/household care, food/ beverage, pharmaceutical or chemical industry in a medium or large-scale industry is required
· Strong knowledge of OHSA, GMP and GDP rules and regulations.
· Basic knowledge and considerable experience in preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and repairing - table top slat chain conveyors / equivalent, pneumatic cylinders, valves, pumping systems, gearboxes, drive chains, other drive components and familiarity with CMMS systems.
· Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Scissor’s lift license is an asset
· Progressive approach to maintenance and process improvement based on profound knowledge of the modern continuous improvement methods and techniques.
· Strong knowledge of MS Office suite.
· Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule work effectively in a fast paced and values driven environment.
· Relevant education and knowledge in Electromechanical equipment - Mechatronics, working knowledge and understanding about PLCs, various types of sensors, VFDs, Robotics and related packaging machines.
· Ability to work flexible shifts and be available during emergency.
· Skilled in using basic hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments.
· Follow all safety procedures and protocols.
· Considerable plumbing knowledge and hands on experience.
· Knowledge and experience in filling machines (fluid) and automatic labelling machines is preferred (not a must).
· Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
· Ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written and excellent interpersonal skills.
· Basic knowledge in operating and making entries in computer.
· Other duties as assigned.
Core Technical Knowledge:
· Mechanical Systems: Understanding of power transmission, gearboxes, bearings, seals, and lubrication systems.
· Blueprint Reading: Proficiency in interpreting schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
· Electrical Basics: Fundamental knowledge of electrical circuits and components
· Repair, install, adjust, or maintain industrial production and processing machinery or refinery and pipeline distribution systems
· Fabrication: Pipe fitting and using shop tools like drills and grinders.
Operational & Maintenance Skills:
· Troubleshooting: Diagnostic abilities to identify, analyze, and repair machine malfunctions.
· Preventive Maintenance: Performing regular, scheduled maintenance to extend equipment lifespan and minimize downtime
· Hand and Power Tools: Proficiency in using various standard and specialized tools.
· Technology: Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for logging
· Physical Demands: Good overall physical fitness, including the ability to lift heavy equipment
· Safety Adherence: Strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety guidelines.
· Training/Certification: Typically requires a 3–4-year apprenticeship program or over 5 years of work experience in the maintenance field.
· Installation & Maintenance: Installing, aligning, dismantling, and moving stationary industrial machinery (pumps, fans, conveyors, generators).
· Industry Demand: Employment for industrial machinery mechanics and millwrights was projected to grow, with a strong focus on preventive and predictive maintenance
