Job Overview:
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
- Sand MDF, solid wood, and veneer parts using manual and power sanding tools (orbital sanders, sanding blocks, etc.).
- Prepare surfaces for paint, lacquer, or natural oil finishes, ensuring smoothness and consistency across all components.
- Inspect and fill minor surface defects (e.g. scratches, seams, dents) with appropriate fillers prior to finishing.
- Carefully sand veneered surfaces to avoid burn-through and maintain material integrity.
Oil Finishing Prep:
- Prepare wood components for Osmo, Rubio Monocoat, or similar natural oil finishes.
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dust-free, and ready for oil absorption and uniform finish quality.
- Apply first-stage oil prep (where applicable), under supervision of finishing lead.
Workspace & Material Handling:
- Maintain a clean and organized sanding station, free of excess dust and debris.
- Organize components by job and ensure proper tagging or labelling where needed.
- Assist in safe and careful movement of parts between sanding, finishing, and drying stages.
Team Collaboration:
- Coordinate with sprayers, oil finishers, and other team members to ensure smooth production flow.
- Report material issues or surface defects to the Finishing Lead.
- Support general department duties as assigned, including cleanup and prep for next day’s tasks.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Hands-on experience sanding wood products (especially MDF and veneer).
- Familiarity with power sanding tools and safe sanding techniques.
- Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, consistent surfaces.
- Physical ability to stand, lift, and work with materials throughout the day.
Required Training and Education:
Training and experience in a field related to finishing, cabinet making or industrial woodworking is considered an asset.

Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
